Building Extension to Open shortly
20. Jul 2009
Oertli is getting ready for future requirements and is extending the production areas by constructing a new building.
Hospitals and clinics worldwide are asking more and more frequently for sterile single-use instruments instead of reusable ones. Oertli already owes more than 50% of its turnover to sterile single-use products. This trend will greatly intensify in the next few years. The production of sterile articles is very material-intensive and needs large working areas. Guaranteeing permanent availability requires appropriate storage facilities.
To meet these requirements, Oertli is extending its production and storage areas. The new building comprises a 625m2 cleanroom on the ground floor and a 900m2 storage area in the basement. The new building is connected with the main building above ground and subterraneously. Particular attention is being paid to low energy use and efficient logistics. The construction cost amounts to 5 million Swiss Francs and has been self-financed.
Oertli is committed to the location in Berneck. The company is convinced that it has the best overall conditions here, which are also suitable for mass production. The care, efficiency and quality with which employees work, in particular, would be hard to achieve abroad. Moreover, the amounts produced in manufacturing are too small for production in a low-wage country.
Oertli expects continuous growth, not only in the area of sterile articles but also in apparatuses and instruments. We are also therefore aiming to extend the production areas here. As the entire production of sterile articles will be moved to the new building, we will be able to use the extra space that will become free in the main building. In addition, Oertli has the option to put a further floor on to the new building if required.
The opening and startup of the new building will be at the beginning of September 2009. Afterwards, various alterations will have to be made in the old building, which is why an open house day for people is planned only for spring 2010.
