Who founded the PAAO?
- Due to the interruption of the International Congress of Ophthalmology in Europe caused by World War II, the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) was created in May 1939 by Harry S. Gradle MD, Moacyr Alvaro MD, and Conrad Berens MD. The aim was to establish a new international forum for ophthalmology in the Americas to facilitate the exchange of scientific information and the development of programs for the restoration of sight.
