New vitreoretinal instruments
Enjoy surgery, extended to every detail
With the launch of OS 4 Up, we introduced a surgical platform built around one guiding idea: enjoy surgery. By harmonising physics and fluidics, the system transforms precision into tangible comfort in daily surgical practice.
Now, we extend this approach to vitreoretinal surgery with two new instruments: the Caliburn Trocar System and the Continuous Flow Cutter. Designed for use with OS 4 Up and Faros, they support vitreoretinal workflows with a focus on controlled access, continuous aspiration and efficient handling*.
Smooth access
The sharp, lance-shaped blade of the Caliburn Trocar System delivers high cutting force and forms the foundation for smooth entry. In combination with the bevelled design of the trocar cannula, it enables a consistent insertion with up to 43 % less
penetration force. The bevelled cannula is precisely aligned with the knife, enabling accurate insertion of both the knife and the trocar into the sclera. Clear tactile markings on the handle
let you immediately feel the correct orientation, eliminating the need for visual control under the microscope 1*.
Powerful performance
The Continuous Flow Cutter ensures continuous aspiration thanks to its permanently open port, resulting in reduced traction on the retina compared to cutters with a conventional guillotine mechanism. A 0.1 mm narrow, double-edged blade cuts both
forwards and backwards, effectively doubling the removal of vitreous portions per cycle. The combination of our sophisticated fluidics system, continuous aspiration, and up to 15,000 cpm with the OS 4 Up and 10,000 cpm with the Faros delivers powerful performance in the OR *.
