Advancing Eye Surgery: Collaborative engineering efforts

At Oertli, we constantly strive for enhancements in eye surgery, aiming for easier, safer, and more efficient procedures. We make this progress possible through the collaborative efforts of multiple engineering disciplines, each playing a vital role in enhancing different aspects of the surgical process. From software engineering to clinical expertise, a diverse range of experts work together in Berneck, Switzerland, to push the boundaries of eye surgery.

Let's take a closer look at some specific disciplines:

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineers at Oertli have a significant role in designing and evolving our products. Their expertise in materials science and automatic design enables our surgical platforms and instruments to be precise, durable, and ergonomic. This allows surgeons to perform intricate procedures with enhanced control and precision, leading to patient safety and surgical efficiency.

Usability and UX Design Engineering

Usability and UX design engineering are dedicated to creating user-friendly and ergonomic interfaces for all our surgical devices, instruments, and consumables. Our experts in this field apply various design principles to enhance the usability and efficiency of our Swiss-made products. Intuitive user interfaces are designed to reduce cognitive load and enable surgeons to fully concentrate on the procedure, resulting in the best surgical outcomes for their patients.

Cloud/IoT Engineering

At Oertli, as a manufacturer of ophthalmic surgical platforms, we recognized the need for a fresh and innovative approach to effectively tackle the challenges encountered by today's ophthalmologists.

Cloud and IoT engineering allow us to set new opportunities. Our experts in this domain develop secure cloud-based platforms and connect devices to capture, store and analyze device-specific data in the cloud. So be excited about the possibilities our surgical platforms will bring to you in the future.

Driving Efficiency

The manufacturing process of surgical devices involves several crucial steps. By integrating meticulous assembly techniques, advanced joining methods, sterile manufacturing environments, and effective surface treatments, we enable the functionality, reliability, and safety of our devices.

Additionally, we have invested in a new Lean Factory that enables efficient production workflows and processes on over 10’000 sqm. Through these investments, we contribute to the continuous improvement of eye surgery outcomes.

easyPhaco® technology
The easyPhaco technology has been developed for safe and efficient phacoemulsification. Thanks to Oertli's unique fluidic concept, easyPhaco allows a direct fragment followability and provides a strong fragment holdability.

HFDS®
HFDS stands for High Frequency Deep Sclerotomy. In micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), HFDS creates a direct access from anterior chamber to the Schlemm canal and further into the sclera.

Power LED technology
The OS 4 has a double light source that provides homogeneous illumination thanks to its cutting-edge LED technology.
